Built amongst the ruins of the former Orc capital of Ushtilg, Kathos-Li is the home of vagabonds and ne’er-do-wells. The ‘civilised’ part of the city, that being the central core and the southern throughway is inhabited by tieflings. After the great battle that sundered the world a band of tiefling scouts were stranded on the lower-reaches and fearing for their lives fled to the nearest shelter they could find.
After a number of years scavenging and fighting off the encroaching hordes of monsters and shadows that had been unearthed after the battle, the tieflings numbers were waning. An enterprising tiefling by the name of Kathos saw an answer. He and his closest followers gathered together and under the cover of night, raided the nearest settlement. They kidnapped any female they could find; eladrin, elf, human if possible, and dragged them back to their would-be refuge. The ensuing years were prosperous for Kathos (who quickly gained control of the fledgling community) and horrific for their captors or any other civilised being who was unfortunate enough to encounter any of Kathos’ minions.
Now, nearly two centuries after Kathos’ death, his bloodline still rule. Using any female of the other civilised races they come upon as little more than a breeding mule, the House of Kathos has increased it’s strength and Kathos-Li’s population more than the entrepreneurial Kathos could have dreamed. The tiefling inhabitants of the growing city have given themselves over to their infernal blood, and have prospered because of it. Calling themselves Kothan’s they have managed to survive on strength and guile, scavenging and trading what they can, taking what they need. Kathos-Li is an ever growing city, and a dangerous place for anyone fool-hardy enough to pass it’s crumbling walls.
